Rishabh Nishad triumphs at Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Himachal Pradesh
Rishabh Nishad (UP) scored eight straight wins to clinch Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Himachal Pradesh. He won the tournament with a round to spare. A last round loss against his state mate Anshu Kr. Pathak, did not deter his championship hopes. Four players - Dev Krishan (HP), Pankaj Verma (HP), Anshu and Deepak Batra (PUN) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was ₹35000. Top three prizes were ₹9000, ₹7000 and ₹6000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held from 12th to 16th August 2023 at Hotel Shimla Hills International in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. It was organized by Himachal Pradesh State Chess Association. This was Rishabh's first tournament triumph of the year. The objective of Chess for Everyone is to attract more players to participate in tournaments, get rating in an event which has low entry fee barrier of only ₹250. Top seed wins the tournament with a round to spare
Rishabh Nishad (UP) scored 8/8 to win the tournament with one to round to go. He was 1.5 points ahead of the field at that time. A half dozen players at 6.5/8. In the final round, Rishabh's state mate Anshu Kr. Pathak defeated him. Pankaj Verma (HP), Deepak Batra (PUN) and Dev Krishan (HP) won against Gagan Bhardwaj (PUN), Syed Majahid Hussain Jafry (UP) and Arun Verma (UP) respectively to finish with the same score 6.5/8. Dev and Pankaj secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. The ninth round of the event witnessed 49 decisive games and there were zero draws, something that does not happen every day!
Chief Guest at the Opening Ceremony was Hitesh Azad posted as General Manger HPMC and Additional Director at Youth Services and Sports Department, Himachal Pradesh. He has a FIDE Rating of 1293 and he also took part in this event.
Chief Guest at the Closing Ceremony was Vivek Thapar, Chairman MC Theog. Vice Chair - Reena Roy and five more members Sheela Verma, Neetu Mehta, Dinesh Sharma, Anil Grover and Sanjay Sharma were also present.

A total of 120 players took part from various states across the country in this five-day nine round Swiss-league Rating tournament which was organized by Himachal Pradesh State Chess Association at Hotel Shimla Hills International in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh from 12th to 16th August 2023. The time control of the event was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
