D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi become the second Indian duo to make into World Top 10 since November 2016

D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi have created a new record in FIDE Rating list May 2024. They both became the first Indian duo since November 2016, to make it into the World top 10 of a published rating list. D Gukesh's historic triumph at the FIDE Candidates 2024 moved him up from World no.16 to 6. Arjun is now World no.7. Arjun's live ranking is no.5, but the next change will take place in June. Currently, there are four Indians in top 14, five in top 28, six in top 37, eight in top 53 and ten in top 81. D Gukesh is the biggest gainer of this list in the Open at the top. Seven and a half years later, Vishy Anand and Pentala Harikrishna's record is broken

GM D Gukesh gained 20.4 Elo rating points at FIDE Candidates 2024. He is now the World no.6 and India no.1 in May 2024 FIDE Rating list. GM Arjun Erigaisi gained 5.1 Elo rating points at GRENKE Open 2024 and 3rd Menorca Open 2024. He is now at World no.7 and India no.2. Vishy Anand and R Praggnanandhaa maintained their places at World no.11 and 14 respectively.

Vishy Anand and Pentala Harikrishna were World no.7 and 10 respectively. Gukesh and Arjun improved that as they secure the sixth and seventh place in the world.

Women: Three in Top 15, Five in Top 51

Three Indian women are in top 13, four in top 29 and five in top 51. GM R Vaishali's fantastic comeback helped her gain 14.2 Elo rating points. She moved up to World no.13 from 15. IM Divya Deshmukh's 13.4 Elo rating points gain moved her from 39 to 29th in the rank. WGM Nandhidhaa P V and WGM Priyanka Nutakki returned to World Top 100 among Women. They gained 81.4 and 82.6 Elo rating points to claim 92nd and 94th places respectively. Currently, there are eleven Indian women among top 100 which is one more than the Open rankings.
