Sohil Shaikh wins 1st Pune Open Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2022
25th seeded Sohil Shaikh scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Pune Open Below 2000 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Four players scored 7.5/9. Out of them, Sai Balkawade and Arnav Nanal secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the event was ₹1000000. Top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹85000 and ₹70000 along with a trophy each. A total of 457 players participated in this four-day rating tournament from six countries across the world, including India. 14-year-old Arnav Nanal makes a memorable comeback
WIM FI Mrunalini Kunte shared on her fb that 14-year-old Arnav Nanal returned to competitive chess after a gap of 2.5 years. He delivered a stellar performance of scoring an unbeaten 7.5/9 and gained 86.4 Elo rating points. He is also the youngest finisher among top three.

A total of 457 players participated from six countries across the world in this four-day tournament. The tournament was organized by Maharashtra Chess Association from 1st to 4th June at Boxing Hall, Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune, Maharashtra. The time control for the event was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
